Jesus is the Only Way to the Heaven?

Jesus is the Only Way to the Heaven?

Jesus is the Only Way to the Heaven?

Jesus is the only way to the heaven, is that true? Well, it depends on whom you ask. Some say yes, others say no. Even among Christians, some will give an emphatic yes, while others will say not so fast.

It is perfectly understandable for individuals of another faith to say no. After all, if they didn’t think their belief was correct, they wouldn’t believe in it. However, it is a bit perplexing for Christians who profess Christianity and believe in Christ to say there is another way to heaven.

For an individual to believe in Christ, profess Christianity, and that the Bible
is the irrefutable Word of God, the answer should be abundantly clear. While this article is written for all to read, it is mainly directed at Christians.

What Does the Bible Say?

First, let’s look at a passage that some believe supports that there is another way.

Rom 2:11-16

11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

This passage addresses judgment and illuminates the truth that God shows no favoritism and that both Jews and Gentiles will be held accountable. It makes no difference whether one lives by the Law of Moses or the law of their conscience; if they obey, they are justified. However, if they sin or disobey, they will be judged.

There is an inward struggle against the conscience when it convicts of wrongdoing. The conscience is an inward monitor that lets us know when we have done wrong. What the law does for the Jew, the conscience does for the Gentile. However, while people can obey the Law without the Law, but with the law of their conscience (vs. 14), this does not mean they are saved another way. Further, if they disobey their conscience, they will be judged (vs. 12).

Notice the judgment in verse 16. According to the gospel he preached, Paul states that they (Jews and Gentiles) will be judged by whom—Jesus Christ. Paul preached the gospel of Jesus to the Jews and the Gentiles (Romans 1:14-17) for them to be saved. So the question becomes; what in this passage indicates that there is another way to be saved? [Comments and answers can be left below]

Judgment is inevitable, and it will be conducted through Christ’s mediation. As Jesus said in John 5:26-27, For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.”

For those who are trusting in Christ for their righteousness, God’s judgment does not include the fear of exposure and punishment because they have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Either way, individuals who obey the law are not saved on that basis (on works). They are saved by their faith in Jesus Christ only. Gal 2:16 says, Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

The Scripture confirms that works save no one, whether by the law of Moses or the law of conscience, but only by faith in Jesus Christ.

Is Jesus the Only Way to Heaven?

All individuals stand as condemned sinners before God. This truth includes the God-fearing, law-keeping Jews, and the Gentile sinners equally. However, all have hope in the same source: through faith in Jesus Christ.

Titus 3:5-7

5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

This passage is further confirmation of what saves mankind from sinfulness.

A foremost concern of Paul was for “another gospel” would be preached.

2 Cor 11:2-4

2 I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.

3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

4 For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. NIV

Paul’s concern was that the church’s love should be for Christ alone, as a pure bride saves her love for one man only. By “pure virgin,” he meant one who was unaffected by false doctrine. The Corinthians’ unadulterated and straightforward devotion to Christ was being endangered by false teaching. Paul did not want the believers to lose their single-minded love for Christ.

Gal 1:3-8

3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,

4 who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

5 to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—

7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.

8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! NIV

Here we have an even stronger rebuke. Some individuals were preaching “a different gospel,” and Paul stated they should be “eternally condemned.”

Paul advocated that Jesus was the only way to be saved. This has not changed—there is no other way.

What did Jesus Say?

Let us now take a look at what Jesus Himself, said about this matter.

John 3:5-7

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Jesus is the only way to the Heaven?

Jesus said that no one could enter the kingdom of heaven unless we were born again. We are born again by believing in Jesus, as expressed in John 3:16-18

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Verse 16 is a very well-known Scripture in and of itself. However, let’s look at it in its full context. Verse 17 states that “the world through Him might be saved.” God sent His Son to save the whole world, not some of the world, not some through Jesus and some another way. What Scripture indicates otherwise? If there is one, please leave it in the comments section.

Verse 18 clearly shows that those who believe in Him are “not condemned.” It also makes it very clear that those who ‘believeth not” “is condemned already” before the judgment for not believing in the Son of God.

Jesus is the only way to the Heaven

Therefore, is there another way?

John 14:6

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Here, Jesus is answering one of His disciples, Thomas, who asked Him how they could know the way. Jesus said He is the way, not a way, not one of the ways, not some of the ways, but the way.” No one gets to the Father but through Him (cf. Isa. 43:11). So why is Jesus the only way?

Because He said so, and His Father’s Word (the Scriptures ) confirms it! Are they lying?

Acts 4:10-12

10 Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead.

11 For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’

12 There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” NLT

This passage is a segment from Peter’s sermon to the religious leaders, the Sanhedrin.

In verse 10, he boldly charged them for killing Jesus, the Messiah that God rose from the dead.

In verse 11, he used figurative language from Ps. 118:22, describing Jesus as the stone rejected by the builders. The builders, in this case, were the religious leaders. However, even though the stone was rejected, it turned out to be the most significant stone of all, the cornerstone.

The cornerstone is the most important stone in a building. It is used as the standard to ensure that the other stones of a building are straight and level. Israel’s leaders, like a builder looking for a suitable cornerstone, rejected Jesus, because He was not the leader they were looking for (that’s another article). However, as it turned out, Jesus was the most crucial stone that ties all of the stones together.

Verse 12 announces the result, “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” Can it get any clearer than this?

Jesus is the Only Way to the Heaven?

No other name under heaven! It is only through Jesus we can be saved. This is the gospel, the good news! Why are we denying it? Why aren’t we just celebrating it?

Conclusion

Jesus is the only way to the Heaven?

It is astounding that any individual that professes Christianity and the authenticity of Scripture can say that there is another way for one to be saved and inherit eternal life. This may seem narrow minded to some, but Jesus did say, “strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” (Matt 7:14).

Further, for the Christian, consider this question: Why are you a Christian if there is another way and what is the other way?

Contrary to popular opinion, believing in a chosen truth does not make it true. There is only one truth, and that’s the truth of Jesus Christ. He said “I am the way, the truth and the life.” Believe in that truth in order to get to the Father. That’s what He said. said “… No one comes to the Father but by me.”

For those who aren’t Christian, who have not accepted Jesus, take this advice from the Scriptures in Acts 2:38

38 “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. NIV

Amen

  1. The age old question of how to get to heaven and what is the way.

There is no book that declares the way to heaven except the Bible. Other ancient books talk about “enlightenment” or becoming wandering spirits but only the Bible declares that there is a life after death and that afterlife will depend on whether you trust and believe that Jesus is the way there.

    1. Yes, JR, there are some who believe that there is another way, but Jesus said John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Amen.

      Thanks for commenting!

  2. Having easy access to the Bible verses and the simplicity of the way they are presented is a welcome way to read, and meditate on the words of the Bible.

    John 14:6 tells us:

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Jesus answers one of His disciples.  Thomas has asked Jesus how they could know the way.

Jesus makes this plain by saying, I am the way. He didn’t say that he was one of the ways or some of the ways. Jesus said “the way.”

The scripture then goes on to tell us why is Jesus the only way.

Because He(Jesus) said so, and His Father’s Word (the Scriptures ) confirms it!   Jesus didn’t have to take this time and explain to Thomas, but he did out of love for his people.

Thanks for bringing this passage forward for reflection and study,

    Sami

  3. Jesus Christ is the only name under heaven by which we can be saved. The Bible is a fantastic book with a lot of powerful verses and by reading the bible we can learn what Jesus want us to know. I am sure that there are other people that don’t believe this. But that is why you and other people are writing great posts like this.

    1. Indeed the intention of this post and all of the posts is to bring awareness that Jesus is the only way and that the Scriptures are the source of wisdom and truth from God.

  4. You raise several questions for the followers of Christ and for those who do not believe. Jesus himself said that the Law would not pass away until even the smallest part of the smallest letter was fulfilled. For those who still live under the Law, they find it difficult to have faith in anything except the letter of the Law. Christ is the only way to the Father, His is the right to judge justly. As a Christian, I do not find it hard to profess my faith and live my faith daily, even to the point of others judging me for my faith. I pray for them daily.

    Jerry

    1. Hi Jerry – Indeed, Christ is the only way. For those who are still living under the law must reconsider, for the Scripture says, in Gal 2:16, “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”

So, keep professing Christ, my brother!

  5. John 14:6 is one of my best scriptures growing up. I love to emphasise that Jesus is the way. There is no other way apart from him. I like it when you stated the need to accept Jesus as one’s saviour. It may seem like a joke, but heaven is real as earth is real. And there is no other way apart from Jesus

    1. Amen, Parameter, it is definitely not a joke, and it’s time to wake up out of the slumber!

      Thanks for commenting!

  6. Jesus’ statement in John 14:6 is explicit; He’s not just one of the ways to the Father in heaven. Rather, He is “the way” – meaning, the one and only, and there is no other way!

It’s true; some people, even professing Christians, deny that Jesus meant what He said when His disciples asked Him the question of how they’re supposed to know the way. I think this has to do with the fear of rejection. I say this because when they start telling people that they can only be saved through faith in Christ, they might get alienated.

This reminds me of the video clip of Oprah on her show that has gone viral. I am not sure if you know what episode of Oprah’s show I’m talking about. But this was when two women in the audience boldly corrected Oprah on her belief that there can’t possibly be only one way to heaven. I do admire those two women who declared the truth even when they knew they might be called bigots.

When we know thee the truth, we must boldly declare it and let people know how they can also receive eternal life and be with God in heaven for eternity.

    1. Amen, Alice – I remember that Oprah episode. I wonder if there was ever a follow-up? Yes, we must declare the truth to people about acquiring eternal life. That is what I am attempting to do.

  9. Jesus is the only Way, He is the Saviour of the world and the only way to Heaven. We should accept Jesus into our hearts as our Lord. Jesus is the answer to every problem that we face on earth and He is more than willing to help us but we must come to Him and give our lives to Him that is the only sure road to salvation. Let’s pray that those who have not excepted Him as yet will do so before it is to late!!!!!

    1. Amen, Norman – Accepting Jesus into our hearts as Lord and Savior is the sure way to heaven. I certainly agree that those who have not accepted Him will do so before it’s too late. See the new article, The Beginning of the End, on the website.

      Thanks for Commenting!

  10. I remember the passage from John 3, verses 16 to 18, so well from being a child. And often in school and at church, we would be reminded that God gave His only Son, so that we can have eternal life. When reading the Bible, we are often reminded that the only way to the Lord and Father, is through His son Jesus.

Anybody that questions the way, only needs to look at what the scripture tells us. Thank you for sharing these helpful verses and explanations for a better understanding.

    1. Indeed, LineCowley, the Scriptures reveal the true way to eternal life, which is through Jesus, The Son of God.

      Thanks for commenting, as always!

  11. Great Bible study on this very important question! One of the problems is that there are actually people that profess Christianity but don’t acknowledge the authenticity of Scripture. There are actually so called Christian churches that don’t believe the Bible is inspired by God, that don’t believe in the Virgin Birth, that don’t believe in miracles, and especially don’t believe in the bodily resurrection of Christ! It’s these “Christians” that would say there are other ways to God/Heaven other than through Christ.

Great question: If you don’t believe Jesus is the only way, why do you call yourself a Christian.

    1. Greetings, Scott, – You’ve made some very valid points that reflect the Scripture found in 2 Timothy 3:5 which reads, “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. Their godliness is in name only.

      Thanks for commenting!

  12. Hey Nathaniel, thank you, Nathaniel. Your piece is an interesting read. I am a Muslim and I appreciate the way you have respected other sensibilities in your presentation. But what I have is mainly a question. And the question is…

What is the correct relationship between God, the Creator, and Jesus? Do you believe in the concept of the trinity? If yes, please explain what it means in simple terms. Cheers!

  13. As a fellow Christian, I completely understand where you are coming from. Everyone has their own interpretation of the Bible, and that is okay. We are all entitled to our own opinions. I just think it’s important to remember that Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) This is a pretty clear indication that Jesus is the only way to heaven. But again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion!

    1. Amen, Brother Reppin250, – Everyone is indeed entitled to their own opinion, but it is so important to have the correct one!

      Thanks for commenting!

  14. Hello Nathaniel

Thank you for writing this article on Jesus is the only way to the heaven.  I grew up in a religious household where we were taught that in order to go to heaven you have to accept Jesus Christ as your savior. So if a person claims to be a Christian and lives their life according to the bible, I don’t understand how they can question that.

In my opinion, they must have skipped over that part of the bible or they have their own type of religion not based off the bible version. I know this article will be very helpful to those who don’t know about Jesus or who have questions about what is the only way to go to heaven.

Also, I had to say that people get the misconception that their works will get them to heaven but as the scriptures Titus 3 5–7 but by your faith and believing in Jesus Christ as your savior.

    1. Yes, April, and Galatians 2:16 says, “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” I myself often wonder what Bible folks are reading these days. We must allow the Spirit to interpret the Scriptures for us and not our own feelings and opinions. We can’t go wrong with the Spirit’s leading.

      Thanks for commenting!

  15. Nathaniel, thank you for this exposition of scripture. It is indeed easy for those of us who believe in the bible and indeed the whole bible to also believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ [Messiah] and the savior of the whole world. The difficulty may come as a result of the misunderstanding of what is meant by the “Way”. In the sanctuary service, there is laid the process of freeing the repentant sinner from sin and that was through the shedding of blood. For the same principle is employed and pointed to as the means of freeing the “world” of sin, that is, through the perfect sacrifice of the son of God. As the ancient worshiper had the faith that the blood of the innocent victim atoned for his/her sin, even those of us should look to the blood of an innocent Lamb of God to atone for our sin. For without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin!! This is the only way ordained by God and no other way. Thank you very much.

  16. Thanks for a detailed article into what Christians believe is the way to heaven and a right relationship with God.

You have presented great scripture which is hard to argue against Jesus being the only way to heaven. For some, many in fact, who have not read the holy word of God, it must be difficult to search and find Him. And eventually, to know Him personally.

I do know that God works in His own time and means, to save those who are searching. Every testimony is unique and amazing to hear. No two are the same. That being said, I agree that even thou there may be many roads to faith, there is only one road to heaven. And that is through our Lord Jesus. Thanks for sharing your inspired post

    1. You’re welcome, Dale. Indeed the Lord does save those who are searching for Him. Prov 20:27 says, “The lamp of the Lord searches the spirit of a man; it searches out his inmost being” NIV and “…He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

      Thanks for commenting!

  17. Hey Nathaniel,

I totally agree with you that the only way to heaven is in Jesus, through Jesus and by Jesus. In fact, his work on the cross would be incomplete without His second coming! Through Him, the will of the father (That of reconciling this fallen world unto Himself) is completed.

Thanks bro for hammering on this very important point. Whether someone likes it or not, that’s the way it is.

    May God bless you abundantly.

  18. This is an excellent reference for anyone that believes there are other ways to get to heaven. In our church we just finished going through Romans 1-3. It really boils down to that actions and what you do aren’t what get you to heaven, it’s a matter of the heart not just going through the motions!

  19. Jesus Christ is the main name under paradise by which we can be saved. The Holy book is an incredible book with a ton of strong refrains and by perusing the book of scriptures we can realize what Jesus believes we should be aware of. I’m certain that there are others that don’t trust this. Yet, to that end, you and others are composing incredible posts like this.

Also, I think it is important to match it with our actions. Reading the bible is not enough

    1. Absolutely, Katherine, as the Scripture reads in James 1:22, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

      Thanks for commenting!

  20. Great post talking about whether Jesus is the Only Way to Heaven. You definitely brought up great passages from the Bible and analyzed them in a fantastic way. This article does a phenomenal job of explaining what’s needed to get to Heaven and deserves the awareness it needs. I wish you all the best!

  21. “I am your Lord and you shall have no other God but me” is the first God’s commandment above all, and we all should be guided by It. I’m a student and they teach us in the religious education that the only way to heaven is by listening to God, be a good person and help whenever is needed. I personally think that there is more to do than just believe in God, like to spread the knowledge and goodness around people we know.

    1. Absolutely, Luka, the Great Commission involves spreading the good news to the utter parts of the earth, and we must obey it.

      Thanks for commenting!

  22. So Jesus didn’t really say much in Matthew 25:31-46 ….Or did he? Hmmmm…wasn’t there a thief on a cross that asked Jesus to remember him (who never stated he believed Jesus was the way , the truth, the life…) WAKE UP!
The words of Jesus are very clear…and just as vibrant in James 2:14-26
    Faith Without Works Is Dead

14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good[a] is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

    1. I’m not sure what your question is, but the thief on the cross exhibited faith when he asked Jesus to remember him. If he hadn’t believed in Jesus, why would he ask to be remembered by him? Also, Jesus accepted him. Luke 23:43 reads, “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. This exchange seems like faith in action to me.
