COVID19 and God: It is time to recognize God is speaking

It is time to recognize—God is speaking and trying to get our attention.  The majority of the world has no idea of what is really going on with covid19.  The purpose of this article is to take a good look at covid19 and God.

God is calling a time out!

God has taken complete control from man.

Let’s just take a look: the world, especially the major centers has come to a screeching halt.  Practically all of commerce is shut down.  The only

COVID 19 and God

businesses that are operating are the ones that supply essential needs.  The stock market has all but collapsed, schools are closed, no malls-no unnecessary shopping, no entertainment-Hollywood is shut down-no theater-no movies-no sporting events-no hanging out with friends, and for the majority no work.  Outside of necessary errands (i.e. groceries and medical appointments) we must stay indoors (as was with the Passover).  Last but certainly not least, there’s no worship: no temple, no mosque, and no church.  The people of God cannot gather together to worship on this most holy week of the year.  Sadly, people all over the world are dying by the tens of thousands.  At the moment, man cannot control this occurrence.

Spiritual Warfare - Resist the Devil
The Prince of the Power of the Air

Simply put: God is trying to get our attention. Because He is being ignored because of the influence of “the Prince of the Power of the air”, Satan [Eph 2:2.  I am currently writing a series of articles on Spiritual Warfare and I am pausing that series because we are witnessing this warfare right before our eyes.  The political leaders are even acknowledging this event as war with an unseen enemy!  But they still aren’t acknowledging God.

These are frightening times (for some).  But no so for the true people of God.  For the people of God these are serious times but there is nothing to be afraid of.  Because we understand what is going on.  We simply must keep our focus on God and be a peace.  The Scripture says in Isa 26:3, Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

The Right Hand of Righteousness
The Right Hand of Righteousness

Therefore, we are not to be afraid.  Only the ungodly, the worldly, are to be fearful.  God’s Word also says: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.[Isa 41:10]

In that Scripture God is encouraging His people not to be afraid because no matter what happens He will uphold us with His right hand.  The right hand is a symbolic term for strength.  God upholds us with all of His strength.

The world has become far too distant from God; ignoring Him and His Commandments.  We are a stiffnecked people. [Acts 7:51] God is trying to get our attention!  But are we listening?  Are we paying attention?  Are we heeding the warning?

We aren’t even listening to each other.  Citizens have been ignoring the warnings and advisories of the government concerning the virus: to stay in place, to keep distances from one another.  So they have to be enforced by the authorities simply because they aren’t listening or refuse to listen.

But this is right in line with what Jesus prophesied concerning His return.  In Luke 17:27-30

27 People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

28 “It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. 29 But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

30 “It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed.  NIV

People insist on carrying on with life totally oblivious to the things of God, even His return. As a result, many will be blindsided when He returns as was the case with covid19.

The Almighty Dollar!

The almighty dollar is the new religion.  It is the total focus of the world these days.  It is hard for me to fathom that there was actually a conversation on sacrificing the most vulnerable of the population for the sake of the economy! Do we value the dollar over human life?  Have we any moral conscience at all anymore?  Is this supposed to be wise thinking?  What Paul wrote to the Romans applies to us today.  In Rom 1:22 he wrote: “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”  We have become so blinded, and so single minded when it comes to the dollar.

A Sign of the last days

Covid19 is just another sign of the end times.  In Matthew 24, the disciples asked Jesus what would be a sign of His return and the end of the world.  In verse 7 it He said: For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.”

Covid19 is a pestilence.  Pestilences are deadly diseases, viruses, plagues, and epidemics/pandemics.  These have been occurring from time to time but they are becoming more frequent and deadlier.  The same applies to earthquakes.

In verse 8 He said: “ All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

Additionally, the book of Revelations Chapter 4 contain prophesies of the mayhem to come

For more on the end times see the article: https://thechristianadvocate.org/the-bible-and-end-times/

God is not to be blamed

Scripture reads in Rom 8:22: “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.”

The trials of the world are the result of the sin entered into the world through man.  The curse of sin upon all creation has brought much suffering.  Had sin not entered the human race there would be no suffering.  This suffering will continue and intensify until the return of Christ.  The complete coverage of this consequence is found in verses 19-23.

Closing

I am going to close with two Scriptures.  First, 2 Chron 7:14,

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

It would be a glorious time if the nations would humble themselves and pray, seeking the face of God and repenting so that He can heal the lands.

Second, Ps 46:10

10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

It is time to be still and acknowledge God.  It is time to acknowledge Him and His Son our Lord and Savior.  It is time to turn from the wickedness that is so pervasive among us.  It is time to “be still” and know God.

  1. As a born again Christian born in the spirit and in the water of Christ we have no reason to be afraid of times like this because the Bible clearly made it clear to us that God encourages  His people not to be afraid because no matter what happens He will uphold us with His right hand.

If as a devoted child of God and you strongly believe in the scriptures than be rest assured that this ravishing pandemic is not for you nor your households. Just pray and trust in God and you will be safe.

    1. Thanks Evans – Yes we must trust and recognize that God is in control and we are not to fear.  Thanks for commenting

  2. There is no doubt in my mind that we are living in the last days of earth’s history. This is not a cliche! It is a fact. Time and space will not permit me to unfold all the Bible prophecies that confirm this truthful conclusion. So let me say thanks to you Brother Nathaniel for sounding the alarm. God bless your efforts and may you continue to let the power of the pen speak loudly as we prepare for the coming of our Lord.

  3. Hello Nathaniel, very well said. Thank you for your article on God and the covid-19 outbreak. When reading through, I keep finding myself nodding in agreement to your words in the article. I have also been thinking about this very often now, that this may be a sign that the end of time is nearing in. However, like you said, there’s no fear, as we Christians knows that this is all in the hands of Our God. I also appreciate your highlight on ‘This is not the fault of God’, but human’s sins. We as God’s son and daughter, we have to look up and pray to God always. To follow his commandments and keep our faith strong throughout all this outbreak and panic. Once again, thank you so much for this article, very well said. Keep it up, Nathaniel. Let’s keep our faith strong and only look to God, as only he has control.

    1. Yes Jyongwa, we must do as the Scripture instructs us to “walk by faith, not by sight.” Thanks for commenting.

  4. Thanks for this poignant and timely article. While I do not believe that we are experiencing God’s wrath (as that isn’t reserved for the believer) I do think it is a wake-up call. I agree that God is trying to get our attention and that now is a huge opportunity for Him to draw people to Himself. I pray that this is the forerunner of a great time of repentance and revival. How amazing would that be? Keep reaching out with the Word, brother!

    1. Hi Steve – Yes it is indeed a wake-up call and I pray that many will respond to the alarm. [2 Chron. 7:14] If so, that will definitely be a great time!  Thanks for commenting.

  5. Hi Nathaniel. Thanks for calling our attention to this. Yes, there definitely are ways God calls and most human beings do not perceive it. How important is to stop and think in these things, that our design is too complex to just have sprung out of nowhere, that our decisions towards God have consequences.

People always try to live their lives disconnected from this reality. But when ever a human-being stops and turns to (not what a religion says, nor what a group of people say, they could be biased, and in fact most are) directly to what God says, that there is condemnation but He’s provided salvation to whosoever believes in His Son, then there is peace in his soul. Do you know what being in harmony is? It’s being in peace with God.

Only a humble person can reach out and accept God’s salvation through Jesus Christ.

  6. Hello, Nathaniel, thank you for the post about Covid19 and God. I agree with the views in your post. I live in Chengdu. People here do not believe in God. There are few Christians here. I still read Book of Revelations in middle school. Like you said, Let ’s keep our faith strong and only look to God, as only he has control.

  7. Amen me and my family do believe that God is speaking to us.
Am not sure if the world is coming to an end or not, but he is putting his message out there and we need to hear him loud and clear.
With Covid-19 that has been a world wide enemy to this country in the last 6 Months, I think we all need to pray to the God for the families that are still with us during this time, and remember the people we have lost to the enemy call Covid-19
We need to come together as a nation and start praying to God

    1. Yes Tee – the world is not coming to an end yet. Jesus said in Matt. 24:6, “…for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” and in verse 8: “all these are the beginning of sorrows.” However it is coming and now during this time of stillness, it’s a good time to reflect on these things and direct our focus on Him.

    1. Hi Tee – No, the end is not now.  The Scriptures says that these pestilences are the beginning of sorrows but the end is not yet. [Matt. 24:6-7]  We do indeed need to come together and pray for the nation.

      Thanks for commenting.

  9. I totally agree with you as God is using this as a medium to pass a message to the world, and some countries are already getting he message as ypu would see people stay in their parking lot holding hands and praying.

From the message in the scripture its obvious that there is no more time as many endtime are already visible,,,i pray God gives us more time….thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi David – Yes, some people are seeking God during this time.  I hope and pray that when this is over that they don’t forget and go back as is what occurred with 911.  The churches were full for about a month and then…

      Thanks for commenting!

  10. Hey Nathaniel,
Its great timing to read your article.  I’m a Christian too and have been wondering about this exact issue.
I agree with you that Satan is behind this and that God is trying to get our attention and its never been a better time to return to the faith in God.  I feel that the closure of the Churches is part of Satan and this puts the Church at risk.

Thank you for your solid knowledge and sharing of scripture.  I didn’t think about pestilences and yes the Corona Virus and other smaller pandemics that preceded it are exactly that and this is the biggest one globally and has shut down so many aspects of our lives.

I really feel you are spot on in your views that thee trials of the world are the result of the sin entered into the world through man.  It is our sins that have brought this, very few realise this so I hope your blog gets read by many.

I will share it in my circles.

    1. Hi John – I believe that God allowed the closing of churches because they have been so infiltrated with the world’s influence that worship isn’t in Spirit and truth as it should be.  I have a article on my website: postmodernism and the church if you wish to review it.  Thanks for commenting!

  11. As a Christian, I truly believe there is so much connection between coronavirus and our God. A lot of what’s happening is connected to most scriptures but people are ignorant to see that. People are slowly losing priorities and putting much of their time on things they shouldn’t. I agree with you that its time we acknowledge God and do this in his own ways and that way he will forgive us. Thank you for sharing this I wish to share it on my social media platforms, I know many people need this.

    1. Yes Jeff – Spread the Word as people need to be aware of where our focus must be.  Thanks for commenting.

  12. Hmm! This is really a good post and I totally agree with you that in this period, one thing all of us Christians should know is that, our God is a God above anything and we need to understand that God is all powerful and in him, we have our faith stored. Hence, we are immune and should not be afraid.

howeber, these exhibits present the end days and the reason we all need to be very vigilante in all we do. Thanks for sharing this here. Thumbs up

  13. When I was telling some group of people on a social media platform that what is happening has a spiritual interference from God but they failed to believe what I was saying. I think it is true that God is calling out attention to him. He wants to call us back to his worship and make us understand that we need to seek his face and be more holy. It is sad that on a day like this, we cannot go to church to pray. I hope things get better for us. Nice job here.

    1. It’s okay Riley, we can pray in our homes.  God is omnipresent-He’s everywhere and always willing to hear our prayers. Thanks for commenting.

  14. I really enjoyed reading your article. Must say though, that I do not agree with you saying that “God is trying to get our attention,” as if God is the reason for all of this. God is all about love, and He is the strong foundation of peace, not bringing about death and chaos to try and get our attention. That is what the prince of darkness does (Satan), for Satan roams around like a roaring lion 1 Peter 5:8, devouring all that he can, and his sole purpose, is to steal, kill, and destroy John 10:10.

Sadly, we live in Satan’s realm, for the earth became his kingdom when he fell from heaven. However, God returned the authority and power over this kingdom back to man, when Jesus bridged the gap between man and God by being the ultimate sacrifice for our shortcomings. God gave man free will over this world, and no matter how much God would like to step in, He is a gentleman, and will only do so when He is asked by us to step in. But keep in mind, there is only so much God can do, because He has already given us the keys to all power and authority over Satan. We have the same power as Jesus, and greater things are we capable of doing John 14:12, it all relies on our faith.

We also should have compassion for those who are not saved, and work diligently to plant seeds by sharing God’s living Word with them, so that someone else can come along and water those seeds, and then one day, the seeds could lead to bringing that person to Christ, and their eyes being enlightened and filled with purpose.

I do agree with you that these are signs of the end times. Everything that tis happening, is setting the stage for the anti-christ to rise up, and begin the tribulation period. Will we see that day in our lifetime? No one knows, for only the father knows that the next coming of Christ. But you are right, the church should not fear, but remain in peace, spreading love and being the example of Christ wherever we go.

Thank you for writing an article that will hopefully shed some light for people living in darkness and confusion.

    1. Hi Brandy – When I wrote that God is trying to get our attention, I wasn’t saying that God is the blame.  In fact there is a section in the article entitled “God is not to be blamed.”  What I do mean is that the way we are shut in in the US, It really is causing people to focus on God who wouldn’t ordinarily do so.  All activity is stopped.  We can’t even attend church here.

When you say that there is only so much God can do. God is omnipotent and in control of all.  Nothing happens without His knowledge (His omniscience).  He can do whatever He feels is necessary according to His infinite wisdom.

I do agree that this is the time to share God’s Word which is why He’s trying to get our attention. This is the opportune time to share and receive God – while we are forced to put everything else on hold.

Thanks so much for commenting! Have a blessed one!

  15. Hllo thank you for such inspiring post. it touched me.

I have realized that over the years, we have lost sight of our faith and we have been living our lives based on what the scientist have been saying. the effect of covid 19 on the world is a clear proof that we need God now, more than ever.

    1. Hello Smoochi – We certainly do need God now and we need to take advantage of this time to focus on Him. I am glad that you were inspired by the post. Thanks for commenting.

  16. Thanks a lot for sharing with us this amazing article. For a long time I was thinking about the words you said here and I can say that now you have opened my eyes completely. God has a purpose with all this covert pandemic-19 and I think we should wake up to reality. When everyone is talking and trying to get the culprit out, I think we are the ones who have to think about why this is all happening.
I’m glad I found the answer in your article and I can’t wait to read your posts again.

  17. Wonderful! I finally get to see someone speaking out my mind as to what I feel COVID-19 is all about. This is a very wonderful piece. The race of mankind has forsaken God and gone their different ways. But, just with the strike of Covid-19, when one tries to take a look at the rate to which people keep calling on God to bring it to an end, one would conclude that it’s God at work. Whenever the Israelites wrong God during the period of the Judges in Israel, He would send His people into the hands of those who would punish them until they had realised they had strayed from Him. So, in the same manner, Covid-19 is more of God trying to call us back to Him. Besides this, as you have rightly said, it’s more about the events signaling the end of the world as the scriptures have foretold. Thank you very much for this amazing piece!

    1. Yes Henderson, now is the time to observe and reflect,  paying close attention to God and His Word. Thanks for commenting!

  18. Hey hello, really want to say a big thanks for thlis amazing article.

I must say constant attention to negative news injects negative energy that leads to fear and birth painful reality. Fear is not of the Lord for he has not given us the spirit of fear but if sound mind. This is a time for us Christians to hold on to God firmly, trust in him and not to panic. God is in control of everything and he knows when to put a stop to it.

  19. Praise God, to him forever be the glory. I was awoken tonight with a feeling that the lord wanted me to listen to him. Right now it is 3:30 am where I live on the east coast in America. I then began to pray and ask forgiveness for my recent falling away, covering my worries with the numbing of alcohol. I just knew I had to pray and sit quiet before the lord. I see no accident in my finding this article. Before returning to bed I was going to post some scripture on social media saying “Be still and know that I am God” for some encouragement.

Instead I found this article while searching the internet. I usually never comment because I think it’s a waste of time.  God is being loud and clear and may he bless you for writing this article calling people back to the one who loves us so much that he gave his only son to die for our sins.  Jesus then defeated death and rose on the third day. Our sins are forgiven. He is alive and we’ve been set free from the chains that once bound us.

    God Bless

    Jason

    1. Hi Jason – I’m so glad that you found the article and was blessed by it.  Thanks for commenting and have a blessed day.

  20. Thank you for the texts in the Bible that you have shared. This event indeed has drawn me nearer to God with my time spent on studying the Bible doubled and learning more about Jesus. If there’s the best time to start studying God’s word, it is now during this COVID-19 lockdown period. We don’t know when will this end, but if we spend a lot of our free time today, then by the time this crisis end, we have learned a lot about God’s word.

Do you also believe that even though these are signs mentioned in the Bible, this is not yet the end but the beginning of the end?

    1. Hi Gomer – Yes this is an excellent time to spend some quality time with God and His Word.  It’s called making lemon-aid with lemons.  But this is the best lemon aid!

Yes, this is not yet the end. As Jesus said in Matthew 24:6, …for all these things must come to pass, but the end it not yet.”

      Thanks for commenting.

  21. Thank you and i do feel enlightened by your article. i would also have to learn a couple of things from you as the website template is beautiful and really clear.this is an awesome article on recognizing that God is speaking. the covid 19 pandemic has sent panic across the Globe but we that find refuge in God shall never be put to shame.

    1. Correct Kirkman – We the people of God are not to fear. He is in control of all. Thanks for commenting!

  22. Hi! a well-written article. Very informative and interesting about the Postmodernism (relativism). Relativism is an excuse for people to say and do whatever they want without having to answer to anyone not even to themselves. Most people never read the Bible and do not know what is in it nor have the desire to read its wisdom, yet feel they know everything and need to break free from something they don’t know Pro 15:2. You are doing a great job keep it up.

    1. Hi Patricia – You are correct; they know everything yet they know little.  As the Scripture reads in Romans 1:22, “professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”

      Thanks for your encouraging words.
